Source : www.lumieres2007.lyon.fr The festival of lights in Lyon is each year the most important event in the city during the year ; floods of tourists invade the town during four days and they come from all over France and even Europe !
Lights change every year and public places and monuments are really wonderful !
The origin of this event comes from 1643, the Virgin Mary protected Lyon from the horrible pest which devasted the south of France;When this epidermis was over, religious people pay homage to the virgin every 8th of December !
It used to be very simple and friendly, people decorate their windows with candles and the shop-windows were remarkable too. Now it’s become a matter of money !
Anyway, it contributes to improve the image of Lyon as one of the most beautiful city of France !
