Woodstock





The Woodstock festival is a music festival and an emblematic grouping of hippie culture of sixties. It was situated in Bethel at 60 kilometers of Woodstock in the state of New York in the US. The festival was to proceed the 15, 16 and 17 August 1969 and to accommodate 50 000 spectators, finally there were 450 000 spectators and east continues one day more is until August 18th.

The advertising published by Richie Havens one of organizer:
“Three days of peace and music. Hundreds of hectares to be traversed. Walk hanging three days without seeing a skyscraper or a red light. Make steal a kite. Be made bronze. Cook yourself your meals and breathes of the fresh air”.


This advertising envisaged neither the number of spectators and nor the colossal congestions which resulted from this. The programming was disturbed. The artists who could not reach the site there were finally brought in the helicopter of US Army. Those were also used to provide for the needs for crowd out of water and food.


At the end of the first day, when the barriers which delimited the site had disappeared, the organizers decided to return the free access of it. “From now one, this has free concert! ”


There were 32 concerts of folk, rock, soul and blues music ( Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Santana, Joe Cocker ... ). It is one of the more great moments of the history of the popular music and was classified among the “50 Moments which changed the history of the Rock'n'roll”.


The festival was at the same time one of the culminating points of the counter-culture of the years 1960 and the hippie culture and the end of flower power.
