Today, I am going to present you an international event. As you know I am a Britain for real and it’s with a real pleasure that I am going to speak highly of that wonderful Britain specialty.
The scene takes place in Britain and more precisely in Guerlesquin, my hometown. There is an unique and specific event to that village. Every year, this show brings together 1000 people of all ages and journalists worldwide. The reason is simple: The world menhir throwing championship! That’s celebrate!
This is not just a sport but a way to bring people together to celebrate and share the Britain culture for 24 h. Indeed, the day is divided in 3 times. It’s important to notice that event pay homage to hardliner Gaul !
The wild boar power !
To establish records it is necessary to gain strength and good food. Therefore you can degust the local specialty: the grilled wild boar! With the "chouchen" and music, you will travel in the magic of Brittany. That’s the best mean to have morale strength and muscle power!
The potion power !
In second time, the forcefulness event! The game and the goal are simple. Each competitor has two tries to cast the menhir the furthest possible. To do that, the competitor has different possibilities: To cast with swing or not, to turn with the menhir…. This sport looks like hammer throw.
The rivals are divided in 4 classes: Idéfix (children), Falbala (women), Astérix (young persons) and Obélix (+20 years) with for objective to cast the menhirs which make respectively for these categories 10, 15, 20 and 25 kg.
The qualities needed to be a recordman :
- The Technical
- Strength
- Endurance
- Resistance to the potion
- Speaking English (for interviews after the tournament)
The current record is held by a champion of France to launch weight = 17.26 m.
So, it’s not an easy task to triumph! It’s necessary to have technical and mainly to have drunk the magic potion. Indeed, there is a druid, Jackomanix, who serves the precious liquid as you can see on this picture
The music power !
In Britain, no event without music. In order to respect this cultural tradition, you will participate at several Britain dances: “gavottes”, “plinn”, “an dro….” What’s more you will eat Britain specialities like “galettes saucisses”, “crêpe”, “cidre”…
To complete this day of celebration and fun, a big "Fest-Noz" is organized and assemble 1500 persons to dance and to share Britain culture.
